September 8, 2011 - Amsterdam – Today at the IBC 2011 conference in Amsterdam, the new UPC TV Everywhere website and mobile application, designed and developed by Empathy Lab (www.empathylab.com), was unveiled. This exciting new product was announced and demonstrated by Mike Fries, CEO of Liberty Global, UPC’s parent company, in IBC’s keynote forum – “Cable and Satellite: Future Directions in a Hybrid World”.
“This is a full integration of television, computer, smart phone, and tablet enabling seamless access to television content and providing a brand new entertainment experience for our customers,” said Ryc Brownrigg, Vice President of Digital Technology for Liberty Global. “Empathy Lab is a critical partner to Liberty Global in delivering this game-changing product.”
“It was thrilling to push the boundaries of technology to deliver a superior entertainment experience to consumers across Europe.” said Jon Molod, SVP of Media and Entertainment at Empathy Lab. “The UPC solution is more than just an online video portal; it’s a true extension and advancement to what we’ve previously known as the television experience.”
Liberty Global selected Empathy Lab to design and develop the user experience for this comprehensive digital entertainment experience. Scheduled to launch this fall, the solution provides UPC customers with personalized recommendations for shows and movies based upon their viewing patterns and preferences. At launch in the Netherlands, video entertainment will be delivered through more than 60 live streaming channels and feature thousands of movies and TV titles.
UPC customers will also be able to view their full TV programming line-up and set DVR recordings or TV reminders for upcoming programs, manage parental controls, create playlists and see what movies and shows their Facebook friends are recommending.
