EPAM Delivers a Complete Platform and Infrastructure Overhaul for a Leading Financial Information Provider

The Customer

The Company aggregates financial content sets from hundreds of contributors, distributing them to institutional investors worldwide via a platform designed to simplify and accelerate the buy-side workflow.

The Challenge

The Company had started work on a new version of its web-based platform with another large, well know outsourcing firm. After fighting with performance and scalability issues, the Company turned to EPAM Systems to help them meet their deliverables. They requested a comprehensive solution that would scale to meet prospective growth estimates, accommodate all future content, and scale upward without impacting performance. This meant the system had to address about 25,000 initial users, handle any anticipated growth from that point, and process content feeds from 100’s of sources with very low latency.

The Solution

EPAM needed to build a full-scale platform for the Company that uniquely leveraged the Company’s services. The system EPAM developed has an open 3-tier architecture (Web Sites, WCF Services, MS SQL Backend) scalable at all 3 layers, allowing for easy future extensions and faster time-to-market. In addition, it was designed and built to operate seamlessly across multiple data centers, enabling business continuity and overall system robustness. All of the upgraded applications support latest industry technologies and best practices.

The distinguishing features of the solution include:

  • Four different web sites developed from scratch, powered by over 100 newly developed web services and data stores
  • Simple CMS implemented to manage text content on the site and to handle entitlements processing for controlling access to all classes of content
  • A complete audit and reporting system built-in into the platform
  • Content contribution subsystem with automated intelligent tagging
  • Full cross vendor symbology service
  • External API implementation allowing access platform services via the Internet using REST and SOAP protocols
The Results

Despite the enormous complexity of architecting and building a full scale distributed infrastructure implemented across multiple datacenters, EPAM was able to deliver the next version of the Company’s service both on time and within budget. The new version of the service passed all quality and performance testing and has now been rolled out successfully to all of the Company customers.

As a result of this new release, the Company has significantly outpaced their competitors' growth rates showing impressive client base growth at over 20% in just one year, a client retention rate of over 90%, and all-time high usage on the service.
