As one of the most critical enablers of innovation and business agility across industries, Cloud technology is central to the modern IT landscape. The rapid evolution of Cloud tech and its potential to transform business operations drives many IT professionals to build and grow their Cloud skills. Alok Bharti, lead systems engineer at EPAM India, is passionate about the benefits of Cloud engineering and works hard to build scalable, secure Cloud environments that solve real-world business challenges.
Alok’s Career
Based in Pune, India, Alok graduated from Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. As he navigated the start of his career, he worked as a technical analyst, a senior associate in DevOps and a junior Cloud engineer with other organizations before taking on the role of Lead Systems Engineer with EPAM. Early on, he developed core technical and problem-solving skills that helped build the foundation for his transition to Cloud engineering. Throughout his career, his specialization in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud technology has remained a consistent theme.
“As a Platform Engineer, I work primarily with AWS core services and support tools to design and implement stable infrastructure,” Alok says about his work. “This allows us to build adaptable, future-proof solutions that can manage and integrate AWS accounts.” By leveraging Cloud innovation, EPAM ensures high performance and the ability to serve a broad customer base.
His professional dedication to AWS speaks to his passion. “What inspires me is the scalability, flexibility and innovation that Cloud platforms like AWS bring to solving real business problems,” he shares. “The way Cloud engineering enables organizations to optimize cost efficiency and improve performance is fascinating.”
The EPAM Journey
After working for other companies in the tech space, Alok began his journey with EPAM in October 2021. Since then, the scope and impact of his work have evolved significantly.
“I help build frameworks that streamline processes and enhance efficiency,” he describes, pointing out that these are vital actions for smooth business operations. “I’ve also created solutions to address specific problems and integrated Cloud accounts with third-party tools to improve their functionality.”
Alok also enjoys building and sharing solutions that empower his team and inspire continuous improvement across projects. As a lead engineer, he heads up a small team of five EPAMers and helps to shape their career paths. “One of my biggest roles is to provide guidance and foster growth within the team,” he shares.
Building Cloud Skills
Even with robust Cloud and AWS experience, Alok is always learning and looking toward the future.
“In the next few years, Cloud technologies will likely focus on AI integration, enabling smarter automation and more flexibility,” Alok predicts. He notes that developments like edge computing are likely to drive innovation and simplify development, allowing businesses to move faster and deliver better user experiences.
He also says certain skills and mindsets will be crucial for Cloud engineers moving forward. “We will need strong expertise in areas like automation, Infrastructure as Code and multi-Cloud and hybrid strategies,” Alok comments. “Knowledge of AI and machine learning integration and serverless computing will also be important for staying ahead. The mindset of continuous learning and collaboration is also important,” he says, adding that this focus can drive innovation and maintain scalability. With over 2,600 Cloud engineering jobs available at EPAM, these specifics can help candidates equip themselves with the right knowledge and skills.
Alok remarks that among Cloud engineering experts, the team at EPAM stands out in the industry with our diverse expertise and collaborative spirit. “We bring together professionals from different backgrounds and experiences with unique perspectives. This is how we specialize across domains and take a holistic approach to our solutions,” Alok says.
Cloud Tech in Our Engineering DNA
EPAM takes a forward-thinking approach to Cloud and strives to stay ahead of the industry wave. “AI is well-integrated across our applications and tools,” Alok notes. “It’s truly outstanding, and it shows EPAM’s commitment to leveraging the best technology.” The company also actively fosters growth and learning for employees through various events, resources and opportunities. These initiatives encourage collaboration and empower individuals to create smart, impactful solutions.
We also balance innovation with reliability and security in our Cloud infrastructure by adopting secure-by-design principles. “Security is embedded in every part of the development lifecycle,” says Alok. “We maintain strict compliance and rigorous monitoring to ensure resilience and consistency.” He explains that this keeps us from compromising the stability or security of our Cloud infrastructure.
Learning and Leading in Cloud
Alok encourages engineers to expand their expertise in AWS, but also to develop a comprehensive view of infrastructure, networking, security and architecture. In many cases, professionals who use a well-rounded approach to their work are better equipped to lead and mentor others or guide decision-making on projects. Alok wants to help these engineers grow.
“Beyond the technical aspects of my role, I’ve personally grown at EPAM by mentoring teams, sharing knowledge and contributing to things that make real business impact. Each milestone has been a valuable opportunity to refine my expertise, adapt to new technologies and contribute to my projects,” he shares.
In fact, Alok says the most rewarding part of his work at EPAM has been the opportunity to work and solve problems alongside such talented people. “It’s fulfilling to see our solutions impact businesses in a positive way,” he explains, and notes how surprised he has been at the dynamic nature of the work. “There’s always something new to learn and a reason to grow technically and professionally.”
