Silo Busting 70: Lessons for the Modern CISO with Tim Ramsay and Sam Rehman

Tim Ramsay, Managing Director of Mandiant Client Advisory, now part of Google Cloud, joins Sam Rehman, CISO and SVP, at EPAM, to discuss how today’s CISO’s are navigating another wave of technology complexity and the potential of AI sprawl.

They highlight that the technology may be new and cutting-edge, but the scenario is very familiar. Similar issues arose with past technological shifts like virtualization and the cloud. The key to managing these challenges, they suggest, is clear communication and building trust within the organization.

CISOs aren't here to shut down innovation; they're here to make sure it's done securely. They need to be in the loop about business goals and work on building trust that security measures are there to help, not hinder. Ramsay points out that security is a team sport — it's about working together and being upfront about the risks.

From the get-go, security needs to be part of the conversation when new projects are being planned. Ramsay and Rehman stress that it's much easier to build security into a project from the start than to tack it on later. For CISOs, building strong relationships with other top executives can lead to more effective conversations and even get those leaders to champion security initiatives themselves.

As Rehman states during the podcast, “So much security requires… letting go of that insecurity.”
