The Resonance Test 101: Regulation, the Resulting Chaos and the Path Forward

When it comes to the global financial services industry, regulation is everywhere and, by and large, it serves a variety of welcomed functions. Regulation helps create order; it drives transparency for consumers; and it levels the playing field for all enterprises. But what happens when regulation results in chaos?

In this episode of The Resonance Test, Chris Owers, Senior Director, Business Services at First Derivative, moderates a discussion between PJ Di Giammarino, CEO of RegRisk Solutions, and Michael Nicholls, Principal, Financial Services Consulting at EPAM. Leveraging their decades of regulatory compliance experience from various domains within the financial services industry, this trio comes together to discuss the impact of divergent regulations coming into focus in both Europe and the UK.

Together, they explore how competing proposals for new trade reporting standards are creating headaches for thousands of financial institutions grappling with the sheer mountain of data that must be processed, parsed and accounted for.

The disjointed start-then-pause nature of the rollout of these regulations have left many financial institutions stunned and uncertain, searching for the most effective path forward. As the group discusses, the best path forward will likely arise from a combination of people and technology, with an emphasis on technology – namely, AI. As
Di Giammarino says: “The nature of this regulatory rollout really leaves everyone with a strategic choice. Do they want to do these types of projects once, twice or three times a year, or however many iterations they’ll wind up going through to get it right? Or do they want to take a more strategic approach where AI can help the enterprise truly align?”

Ready to learn how a focus on people and technology can help bring order to chaos? Then it’s time to listen to this episode.
