The Resonance Test 98: Gary Rivlin, Author of “AI Valley”
They say you can’t tell the players without a scorecard. In the high-stakes game of AI, that scorecard is one of multiple dimensions, and it’s titled AI Valley: Microsoft, Google, and the Trillion-Dollar Race to Cash in on Artificial Intelligence. The book’s author, Gary Rivlin, joins Barry Briggs, former CTO at Microsoft IT, for some color commentary on the text and the scene more generally. In the course of their conversation, they reference people such as Reid Hoffman, Mustafa Suleyman, Sherry Turkel and Mark Zuckerberg. And they embed these characters in the history of AI, the emotional intelligence of chatbots, the function of copyright in the AI era and our possible agentic futures. Fast Company called Rivlin’s book “an essential AI read for 2025.” Seems fair to say that this episode is an essential listen.
