To address challenges around encoding video-on-demand (VoD) files, a European telecommunications company needed a solution with a user-friendly interface to streamline and automate its process for converting raw video files into a format suitable for its VoD services. The company partnered with EPAM to overcome its challenges. We implemented our Mediacode solution that takes raw video and processes it through various stages, such as encoding, transcoding, quality control, adding pre-roll, adding subtitles, packaging, archiving and delivery. With the solution in place, the client has optimized its complex media handling processes.

Our Mediacode platform, built entirely on Amazon Web Services (AWS), has allowed the client to build customized workflows and activities to process VoD content, ensuring it’s always ready to deliver for its customers. Key AWS services power the platform, including:
- AWS Step configures and orchestrates different workflows
- AWS Lambda and Amazon EC2 execute video activities
- AWS Elemental Mediaconvert transcodes video
- Amazon Aurora and Amazon DynamoDB store workload and configuration data
- Amazon S3 Glacier stores and archives video files
- AWS Direct Connect transfers data into the client’s network
- Amazon API Gateway and Amazon Lambda manage APIs
Results
With Mediacode integrated into the video platform, the client now has a user-friendly solution that allows users to easily monitor and control the encoding process. Mediacode also supports various video input and output formats, facilitating the specification and execution of complex media handling processes integral to the client’s operations. In the future, EPAM plans to add new features to the platform to make it even more powerful, including batch processing, parallel processing and scheduling.
