THE CHALLENGE

A medical technology and healthcare services company was managing its Oracle database on a stack that was never designed for where the business was heading. This led to a set of compounding infrastructure problems that eroded efficiency and inflated cost over time.

For our client, the pain points included:

  1. Licensing overhead with no strategic return. Running Oracle on Windows with Veritas meant carrying the cost of multiple licensed products that weren't delivering differentiated value. These weren't investments in capability; they were operational costs tied to a stack the organization had outgrown.
  2. Legacy scripts that couldn't keep pace. Maintenance scripts written in Perl were increasingly difficult to support, particularly as the team evaluated a move toward Linux-based infrastructure. Incompatible tooling introduced operational risk and added friction to every maintenance cycle.
  3. Limited scalability and reactive performance management. Without a cloud-native foundation, scaling Oracle workloads efficiently wasn't viable. Backup methods were expensive, performance tuning was reactive and the infrastructure couldn't support the organization's evolving data demands.

The client needed to:

  1. Migrate Oracle databases off Windows and Veritas onto AWS
  2. Replace licensed infrastructure with AWS-native services
  3. Modernize the operational layer to reduce risk and improve maintainability
