AI: Build the Foundation and Ensure Responsible Use
The rise of generative AI (gen AI) offers companies unprecedented opportunities to innovate, work more efficiently, and deliver new services. But with significant impact comes significant responsibility: deploying AI without proper governance carries risks and can undermine trust and slow adoption, write Michael Nicholls and Nora Skjerdal of EPAM.
Research by EPAM shows that only 1% of companies have established an effective AI governance framework. Many organizations appoint a Chief AI Officer (CAIO) for this purpose. It's striking that 63% of the most innovative companies now have one. In other organizations, responsibility lies with the Chief Data Officer or Chief Information Officer.
Regardless of job title, leadership and governance are crucial for connecting AI strategies with broader business goals. Strong policies, risk management, and ethical oversight ensure that AI delivers value safely and sustainably.

De opkomst van generatieve AI (gen AI) biedt bedrijven ongekende kansen om te innoveren, efficiënter te werken en nieuwe diensten te leveren. Maar grote impact impliceert ook een grote verantwoordelijkheid: AI inzetten zonder goede governance brengt risico’s met zich mee en kan het vertrouwen ondermijnen en adoptie vertragen, schrijven Michael Nicholls en Nora Skjerdal van EPAM.
Uit onderzoek van EPAM blijkt dat slechts 1% van de bedrijven een effectief AI-governanceframework heeft ingericht. Veel organisaties benoemen daarvoor een Chief AI Officer (CAIO) aan.
