Xbox Studios’ World’s Edge, the developer of the legendary Age of Empires franchise, sought to improve its game and network performance by modernizing its network operations center (NOC) and enhancing various online features of its games. World’s Edge partnered with EPAM for the transformation because of our extensive work in the gaming and media industries. With EPAM’s help, World’s Edge now has a NOC that provides superior support for the Age of Empires game series, and its games have up-to-date online features.

for a Leading Game Franchise
World’s Edge is the developer in the Xbox Game Studios’ ecosystem that creates the popular Age of Empires video games. In the spring of 2023, the company was looking to transform the NOC that supports its Age of Empires game series to enhance stability, performance and reliability. Additionally, World’s Edge wanted to update the online features of the gaming franchise.
The company chose to partner with EPAM to transition and take over its network operations because of our vast experience working with gaming and media companies, including Epic Games and Unity.
In just four months, EPAM helped World’s Edge transition and then run its NOC, providing all L1, L2 and L3 support. With a new NOC in place supported by EPAM, World’s Edge is able to provide superior gaming performance, improving the overall gameplay experience for its users. Today, EPAM continues to run World’s Edge NOC, monitoring network operations and processes and resolving issues to ensure optimum performance and stability. In addition, our team helps World’s Edge develop new features for Age of Empires to further enhance the game’s functionality.

Online gaming networks must provide 24/7/365 reliability. That’s why World’s Edge and EPAM implemented Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 NOC monitoring teams that work around the clock. These teams monitor and triage Azure alerts and services 24/7, along with monitoring Azure metrics, log analytics and dashboards.
These teams also perform L1 analysis, escalating L1 to L2 as needed and solving issues with runbooks. The L2 portion of the team updates runbooks according to network and infrastructure changes. Additionally, our team provides L3 on-call support. The team supports all global game regions, with EPAM teams working in the same time zones as World’s Edge teams to facilitate improved communication and collaboration.
Our monitoring team provides rapid support to ensure smooth operations for Age of Empires. In fact, EPAM’s team responds to World’s Edge’s critical network incidents in 15 minutes and high-priority incidents in one service hour 98% of the time. This dedicated level of support ensures performance issues are always resolved quickly.
